FIRST AID AT WORK (FAW)

ABOUT

This course is our most comprehensive first aid course, designed for and delivered to all types of businesses and companies. Working together, the ultimate goal is to reduce risks and save lives in the workplace. The First Aid at Work (FAW) course is recommended for larger businesses and those with more complex risks and complies with the Health & Safety Executive (First Aid) regulations 1981.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR

This course is suitable for anyone becoming or who already is, a first aider in the workplace and might need to provide first aid to someone who becomes injured or unwell at work. This First Aid at Work course enables work place first aiders to confidently deal with first aid emergencies using their newly learnt knowledge and skills in managing a wide range of potential injuries & illnesses. No previous experience is required to attend this course.

COURSE CONTENT

Managing an incident

Priorities of First Aid

Treatment of an unconscious casualty who is breathing – recovery position

Treatment of an unconscious casualty who is not breathing – CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

Importance of a defibrillator and how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

Heart Attack and Angina

Stroke

Choking

Shock

Bleeding – grazes, splinters, embedded objects, amputated parts, knocked out teeth, mouth injury, eye injury, bruising, nose bleeds, objects in eyes, ears, nose

Burns and scalds

Head injuries, concussion, compression & skull fracture

Spinal injuries

Breaks, soft tissue injuries & dislocations

Anaphylactic shock and the use of an Epi-pen

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Duration & venue: This is a 3 day (18hrs) course. Train at our venues, in-house or location of your choice (email/call if you wish us to deliver this course at a venue of your choice).

Group Size: The maximum number per course is 12, this allows focused teaching and lots of learner practice time

On the day: Each learner receives a training pack including a pack of resources to help them practice the skills covered. The pack includes a course companion workbook, first aid manual, bandages and more.

Assessment: Continuous assessment of learners throughout the activities & practicals. There will also be question & answer quizzes & a written assessment to demonstrate learning. Lots of support and help by the instructor available for everyone throughout the course.

On successful completion of this course, you will receive a First Aid at work certificate which is valid for three years and you will be eligible to work as a first aider. For best practice, we support the HSE recommendation to complete an annual first aid skills update.

 

 

 

EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK

ABOUT

If your work place First Aid Needs Assessment has identified the requirement for a trained first aider, and you work in a lower risk organisation such as shops, cafes, schools, offices etc, then this is the ideal course as recommended by the Health & Safety Executive.

Designed to train people in emergency first aid, this course is suitable for anyone who may be required to provide first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill in the work place. Learners will become confident to use their new skills as a first aider to deal with common accidents, emergencies & illnesses that could happen in the workplace.

This course complies with the Health & Safety Executive (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

ANNUAL REFRESHER FIRST AID

ABOUT

The Health & Safety Executive strongly recommends that qualified First Aiders attend an annual refresher course every year before they re qualify after three years of getting their First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate. This offers first aiders the opportunity to practice and refresh their knowledge and practical skills in order to be prepared if they are ever needed to help someone that has become injured or ill in the workplace. It also allows first aiders to keep up to date with any changes they may occur between completing their first aid course and re qualifying 3 years later.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR

Anyone that holds a current FAW or EFAW certificate.

COURSE CONTENT

Course syllabus follows the suggested content by Health & Safety Executive (HSE) contained within The Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981:

Note: This course does not renew first aid certificates nor does it extend the validity period of certificates.

PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID

ABOUT

This is our most comprehensive paediatric first aid course designed for people looking after and caring for babies and children in any professional setting. This engaging and supportive course provides learners with the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond and deal with a range of paediatric first aid illnesses, accidents and emergencies. This paediatric first aid course meets the Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register requirements.

It is a legal requirement that at least one person with a valid full Paediatric First Aid certificate is available at all times within a professional childcare establishment.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR

Anyone working with or caring for children of all ages including those looking to be Ofsted registered, working towards the NVQ in childcare & education. This course is ideal for childminders, nannies, au pairs, teachers, nursery staff, playgroup leaders, parents, grandparents & carers of children of all ages. No previous knowledge or experience required.

COURSE CONTENT

EMERGENCY PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID COURSE

ABOUT

This course is ideal for people working with or caring for children & babies. In a supportive, engaging and informative environment, learners will develop the knowledge and skills to feel confident to manage first aid & emergency situations that may occur while looking after children & babies.

This course is suitable for those caring for children in a professional setting  working in a team with people that hold a full PFA certificate. It is recommended for the Early Years Foundation Stage & meets the Childcare Registration requirements.

It is however a legal requirement that at least one person holding a full Paediatric First Aid certificate is available at all times within a professional childcare establishment, including cover for sickness and annual leave as well as accompany children on trips. For childminders or assistants that might be in sole charge of children for any period of time, you must hold a full Paediatric First Aid certificate.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR

Nannies, childminders, teachers, nursery workers, playgroup staff & au pairs, specifically aimed at newly qualified level 2 or 3 early years childcare staff. Also suitable for parents & grandparents. No previous first aid experience required.
